ABSTRACT
Polymers have changed and improved our life. They can be found everywhere with applications in different fields, such as agriculture, medicine, food, among others. Since the world started to be aware of the environmental issues related to polymers, biodegradable polymers have attracted great attention as a solution to reduce the related pollution and the impact on human health. This chapter presents the recent trends in biodegradable polymers. From natural to synthetic polymers this work first introduces their classification and main characteristics. Then, the latest contributions and main applications of biodegradable polymers are presented to provide the reader with an insight into the current research status and future challenges.
