ABSTRACT

As natural alternatives to synthetic drugs, phytomedicines are becoming more and more popular due to their various health benefits and minimal adverse effects. In conventional herbal dosage forms, issues like poor drug solubility, decreased skin permeability and low bioavailability are common occurrences resulting from poor pharmacological response. Nanotechnology is an excellent strategy to overcome these drawbacks. This chapter reviews the major challenges in developing phytonanoformulations, different formulation strategies, vesicular systems, and also discusses the obstacles faced in the transition from promising drug delivery to successful clinical practice.
