ABSTRACT

It is seen worldwide that food waste causes a great impact on society and the environment, losses are observed throughout the production chain, which establishes a need to use food in an integral way. In this sense, research in bioprospecting for natural products is relevant and essential in this process. Tons of food is wasted each year, however, studies have shown that using food sustainably reduces the production of organic waste, extends the shelf life of food, promotes food security and benefits the family income. In addition, the full use of fruits and vegetables, as a way of encouraging the consumption of this food group, is a healthy eating practice and contributes to health promotion. Research has revealed that fruits and vegetables are essential to human nutrition because they are a source of micronutrients and valuable sources of vitamins. Bioprospecting has been an activity that allows recognizing the economic value of biodiversity and has helped industries and research centers to take advantage of this wealth. In this case, bioprospecting activities include three elements, namely: researching, transforming into products and marketing where they are inserted: macropolicies; biological diversity surveys and information management systems; technology transfer and industrial property development; and business development. As it is considered an organizational complex in the beauty world, the cosmetics segment is a growing sector in the globalized economy. The industries that are present in Brazil, namely: Boticário and LÓreal, for example, have been using the new trends in the cosmetic sector focused on innovation and sustainability. For L'Oréal, sustainable innovation also means designing products that are effective, respecting ecosystems and biodiversity and providing consumers with well-being. The studies evaluated patents resulting from research through bioprospecting. It is seen that there is a need to intensify research in the area of innovation and sustainability, seeking greater awareness of environmental problems. Thus, there is also a need to intensify the forms of interaction and cooperation between companies and research institutes and universities.
