ABSTRACT

Artificial intelligence (AI) will be a flourishing innovator for the foreseeable future. Its adoption in education seems to be one of the most promising research areas of the 21st century. AI is already making breakthroughs in the realm of education, particularly since education has shifted from offline to an online paradigm due to the Covid-19 crisis. This chapter presents some of the key challenges of the modern education system, with the AI-based solutions that have been and can be used to overcome them. This work mainly focuses on some significant research questions including: how AI has been established in the education sector; what the education of the future will look like; and how educational institutions are using analysis to develop value in education using technologies like artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, and big data in developing countries. We shall also focus on how the Covid-19 pandemic prompted the use of AI in education and how AI has proven a game-changer for students with special needs. The negative aspects of AI are also considered alongside its positive aspects and importance for the education sector. The chapter proposes a framework for how AI can be used by different educational subjects, especially in the healthcare sector. The outcomes show that the possibility of robots replacing teachers and reducing jobs is the biggest threat to future AI in education. Whether the education sector will benefit or will confront it remains to be seen.
