ABSTRACT

In the vast field of computer science, machine learning is one of the most rapidly flourishing technologies, and is used extensively. The phrase “machine learning” describes the essential computerization of data arrangement. According to Samuel (1959), “It is the subdivision of Artificial Intelligence that administer computers with the capacity to automatically grasp and improve from data and understanding without being explicitly programmed”. Numerous machine-learning algorithms have been developed in a variety of challenging fields over the past few years, using genuine information and models. These include automated image recognition, biometric systems, smart healthcare systems, smart farming, precision agriculture, weather forecasting, traffic signal monitoring, mixed reality, geology, geophysics, medical diagnoses, digital music, computational linguistics, bioinformatics, speech and language processing, and astronomy.

In today’s world, machine learning has become a universal tool for any problem that requires information to be extracted from extensive datasets. This chapter provides detailed and clear information about the introduction of machine learning and its potential applications in the fields of precision agriculture and healthcare. A brief overview of novel artificial intelligence and deep learning approaches is also included.
