ABSTRACT

Food adulteration is a very common business practice to earn unfair profits or extorted economic gain. The increasing population has been turned up into a large business market for different industries and entrepreneurs. The international food business/trade has been increasing at a very fast rate in adopting the food habits and tastes of different regions of the world. In this race, the chances of ignorance or intentional addition of different materials/substances into the food have been increased many folds. Entry of microbiological, chemical, and physical hazards materials in our foods, causing foodborne illnesses and sometimes deaths. Food adulteration, which is presented in its crudest form generally achieved by several methods, which affect the natural quality, quantity, and composition of food ingredients. Analysis of current situations on food adulteration is increasing day by day. It has been noticed that several health problems in humans, as well as animals, arise due to adulteration in food products. The role of advertising companies in exaggerating false health benefits of food items endorsed by them have been increasing day by day. The strict laws and orders are required by every county in order to control and stop all the malicious activities, which are responsible for food adulteration knowingly/unknowingly. This study is a critical review on food adulteration. Every aspect of adulteration has been touched by the reviewer to provide a detailed understanding about food adulteration and its spreading business worldwide.
