ABSTRACT

Global food traceability is a prime requirement of the food industry business around the globe for the safety and quality assurance of food products. A real-time traceability mechanism is able to keep a check on the unsafe food that leads to a decrease the foodborne illness. Several traceability mechanisms adopted by different countries were reviewed and analyzed in the current manuscript. It was found that proper traceability with an approach of ICT is immediately required for the maintenance of a comprehensive system of external and internal traceability. It is also noticed that, in general, traceability is adopted for some of the agro-products and not for the others. A complete and transparent traceability mechanisms need to develop for sustainability and food safety. An overview of the current scenario and future prospects of traceability mechanism across the globe is discussed here in detail. This study recommended the development of centrally controlled traceability mechanisms from the farm to the consumer table in a transparent manner.
