ABSTRACT

Food wastage is of alarming concern at the international level. This issue is needed to be tackled threadbare in order to save the people from starvation. It cannot be done single-handedly unless problems regarding food security, fixing wastage loopholes in value-added supply chain are corroborated and fixed appropriately. Food losses and wastage are the results of improper management of food supply systems. The first priority of FAO and global developmental banks is to limit the post-harvest losses (PHL) to fill the gap significantly between the production and availability of food. Several strategies and policies are needed to be initiated both at National and International level to facilitate the idea and thereby to ensure the availability of food for a growing population. This chapter provides a brief overview of post-harvest management (PHM) practices followed globally along with the technologically equipped intervention which have been initiated to facilitate the idea and the possible strategies which can be adopted worldwide to attain the maximum benefit of the concept.
