ABSTRACT

The underutilized medicinal crop Hibiscus sabdariffa L., commonly known as roselle or red sorelle, has multipurpose utilities such as food, feed/fodder, culinary, medicinal, source of fiber, etc. It has wide adaptability to warm and humid tropical climates. However, its phenological development, yield, quantity and quality of products are being significantly hampered by various abiotic and biotic stresses in the existing climate change scenarios. Updated knowledge on the medicinal utilities and impacts of various stresses on the morphology, physiology, yield and quality of H. sabdariffa, along with their possible remedial measures and future research dimensions, are discussed in this chapter.
