      ABSTRACT

      Living organisms are susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria,protozoa,fungi, nematodes, virusesandothersubviralparticles. This is the foundation for exploiting the living organisms which can kill both phyto and human pathogens bothering human beings. They are referred to as biopesticides and these are gaining momentum due to its selective action, natural origin and minimal or no effects on the non target organisms. World is yet to witness the second green revolution and in this connection biopesticides remain as an important component of the integrated pest management for sustainable agriculture. Even though biopesticides seems to be better alternative to the chemical pesticides which is widely accepted and easily practiced inconventional agricultural practices, it has to pass through several hurdles to replace or reduce the use of chemical pesticides having several issues concerning environment and health. This chapter intends to discuss the issues related to its benefits and problems associated with production and field performance.
