ABSTRACT

The clinical treatment of diseases may involve medications to control risk factors, percutaneous interventions, and open surgery. Yet, these treatments may have problematic side effects and despite advances in medical technology, the prognosis of many diseases remains poor. Better treatment options are required. Thus, remedies derived from folk remedies have become important sources of novel agents for several diseases and the focus of more in-depth evidence-based research. The region currently known as the Middle East has been inhabited by several ancient cultures and civilizations. The unique ethnobotanical knowledge of these civilizations is available to the current inhabitants of the Middle East. The application of neutraceuticals derived from ancient Middle Eastern ethnobotany is actively being investigated for the treatment of non-communicable conditions, and the understanding of these topics has advanced in recent years. Here we provide resources recommended and used by active clinicians, practitioners, and researchers. This includes information on more than 100 regulatory bodies, societies, organizations, and other resources including over 40 books.
