ABSTRACT

People in ancient times and also today value traditional Arabic medicine, which is widely used to treat different diseases. However, there remains a lack of detailed information about the specific plants common to traditional medicine in certain countries, on their usage, and their effects. This research aims to expand research and knowledge about the most important plants used traditionally in Syria and herbs and other plants used in the Middle East in general. In this research, we focus on some plants and herbs in Syria like caper, chamomile, lemon balm, pistachio, laurus, olives, flax, and yerba mate -their usage in cuisine and other areas, and their pharmacological effects. Also, we focus on some herbs and foods used in the Middle East. However, the safety of these plants is still the focus of researchers because herbs and plants may contain toxic effects even more so than Western medicine. Today the research and demands are increasing regarding the regulations of traditional medicine.
