ABSTRACT

Maize is one of the worlds most important cereal crops. It is one of the most versatile emerging crops having extensive adaptability. Maize crop can be grown in diverse conditions. Maize is also known as the queen of cereals because of its potential of highest genetic yield. Popcorn is described as having a very rigid, hornlike endosperm containing only a small portion of soft starch. It has basically flint-type mall kernels. Pod corn is more of an ornamental type but may be sweet, dent, pop, waxy, or floury in endosperm features. Post-harvest loss comprises the food loss throughout the whole food supply chain i.e. from harvesting to its consumption. The losses can be weight loss, quality loss, seed viability loss, and nutritional loss. The causes of post-harvest loss include limited accessibility of suitable varieties for processing, lack of suitable processing technologies, and insufficient commercialization of new technologies.
