ABSTRACT

This chapter provides insight into the various Agroforestry strategies that are suitable for coastal areas and also discusses the challenges and opportunities for adaption. India contains around 7517 km of coast line, which is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on the west, the Bay of Bengal on the east, and the Indian Ocean to its south. The Indian Coastal ecosystem, where land and water join to create an environment with a distinct structure, diversity, and flow of energy. In coastal systems, poor resource management is among the main causes of its degradation. As such, impacts arising from climate change, including sea-level rise, has forced an increase in the demand for sustainable coastal ecosystem science to inform management decisions. Agroforestry is an integrated approach for maximization of agricultural production per unit of land. Natural disasters like tsunamis, storms, cyclones, coastal erosion, typhoons, sea level etc., causes damages to coastline of the world.
