ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with recent advances in smart packaging, its trends, and applications in industries. Requirements of the compound or material to besat is factorily used as oxygen scavenger in the food industry must be: The use of iron, zinc or magnesium powders as oxygen scavengers to remove oxygen from the headspace of packaged cans are most widely used agents. The metalpowders' used as oxygenscavengers paved the way for the subsequent development of the commercially available metal based oxygen scavengers. Iron powder-basedoxygen scavengers are the most commonly used oxygen scavengers for the commercial purposes. Metal based oxygen scavengers can be included in the food packages in the form of sachets, films, labels or strips. Organic oxygen scavengers are such a low molecular weight organic compounds whose side chains reacts with oxygen or the backbone breaks apart when polymer in which they are incorporated reacts with oxygen.
