ABSTRACT

Sound is an acoustic energy in the form of a mechanical wave which transmits through gases, liquids and solids. Acoustic spectrum consists of three regions, infra sound, audible region and ultrasound. Acoustic frequency alters thermodynamic behaviour, secondary structure of protein and fluidity of cell membranes. Moreover, decrease in phase transition temperature as well as enhancement of fluidity of cell wall and membrane results in faster division of cells. Plant Acoustic Frequency Control Technology or sonic growth-promotion technology, is a new technique which uses an acoustic frequency generator to produce appropriate acoustic waves that matches with the sound frequency of specific plants. Sound can influence different aspects of plant growth; based on available information they can be classified as: morphological changes, physiological changes, biochemical changes, and changes in yield and quality. Sound is known to affect various metabolic activities involved in seed germination.
