ABSTRACT

Advancement in waste conversion strategies and technologies results in major change in the mentality and perception regarding ‘wastes as potential resources instead of a problematic issue’ around the globe. Conversion of wastes into valuable products through the use of various technologies causes the minimum release of various hazardous pollutants in the environment. Currently, various industries started working on ‘wastes to wealth’ strategies through converting wastes into value-added products such as various bioactive compounds, antioxidants, citric acids, pigments, food flavouring and preservative compounds, bioplastic, biofertilizer, biogas, edible films, nanoparticles, probiotics, microbial media, carbon dots, biochar and biosorbants. Utilization of these low-cost kitchen and agri wastes for the production of high-cost valuable products is a novel step towards environmental sustainability. The present book chapter thus focuses on various kinds of waste and their potential utilization for the production of valuable products.
