ABSTRACT

Micro irrigation normally called as drip irrigation was introduced in early seventies. In micro irrigation method, water supplied at slow rate that is 1.0-2.0 kg/sq cm to the root zone of an individual plant through lets called emitters or drippers fitted with laterals pipes and filters at pump side. The Indian arid zone is characterized by high temperature and low and variable precipitation which limit the scope for high horticultural productivity. The advantages of drip irrigation are as follows: The disadvantages of micro-irrigation are as follows: In India around 88% water is being used in agriculture sector, domestic use amounts to about 5% and industry use about 7%. In pomegranate fruit crop drip irrigation method, applying water equivalent to 20 per cent area is superior method of water application over surface method and average annual irrigation requirement of pomegranate through drip method is 20cm.
