ABSTRACT

Karonda is suitable for independent orchard as well as for hedge row plantation for live fencing. Orchard can be laid out in square or rectangular system. Propagation by stem cutting is also a viable option of vegetative propagation. The pits of 60 cubic cm sizes should be dug one month before planting and filled with a mixture of soil and well rotten FYM in the ratio of 3:1. June-July is the best time for planting but it can also be done in February-March, where the irrigation facility exists. Karonda is a hardy plant and once established can thrive well without irrigation for a long period. Depending upon soil and climate the plant can be irrigated once in 15 days during winter and at 7-10 days during summer during initial three years of planting. Regular irrigation is given during establishment phase after which no irrigation is given during monsoon and winter season except occasional life saving irrigation.
