ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the process of radioactivity measurement and traceability in the context of a nuclear medicine clinic. The requirements for metrological traceability are introduced and the traceability chain for nuclear medicine is presented. Primary and secondary standards for radioactivity measurement are discussed along with systems for establishing international equivalence. Calibration of radionuclide calibrators including establishing traceability for measurements and national comparisons of radionuclide calibrator measurements are also discussed. Finally, activity measurements in the context of radiotheranostics are considered, both for established radiotheranostic combinations and novel radionuclides.
