ABSTRACT

The guava fruit is a good source of vitamin C, pectin, calcium and phosphorus. The fruit is used for the preparation of processed products like jams, jellies and beverages. Guava jelly puree is very popular for its attractive purplish-red colour, pleasant taste and aroma. Maggot pale cream, cylindrical, 5-8 mm in length, larval period 4-5 days. Maggot pupates in soil, pupal period 7-13 days. Adults are brown with greenish black thorax having yellow marking on abdomen. The caterpillars bore inside the developing fruits and feed on pulp and seeds just before the rind exhibiting round bore holes on fruit. Infested fruits are also attacked by bacteria and fungi, which ultimately fall off and that induce rot in the fruits producing a foul smell. The bugs are both nymphs and adults suck cell sap from leaves, tender shoots and fruits them, that results in crinkling and yellowing of leaves.
