ABSTRACT

A symposium organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1966 and International Organization of Biological Control (IOBC) in 1967, felt the need for the development of a new concept called “Integrated control” which was later replaced by “Integrated Pest Management”. Citrus belongs to the family Rutaceae. The genus citrus consists of many commercially available species in India such as grape fruit, lemons, limes, sweet orange, mandarin, trifoliate orange. Toxoptera aurantia reproduces parthenogenetically with thelytokous mode of parthenogenesis the nymphal period is 6–8 days. The nymph settles on the tender leaves, young shoots and flower buds and suck the sap. The meanpre-reproductive period of nymph is 8.1 days, with a longevity of 28.4 days. Biotic potential or fecundity accounts to 58.5 offspring/female. The population density of citrus psylla depends on the temperature and availability of the vegetative source.
