ABSTRACT

Consumer awareness and health trends have augmented the demand for nutraceuticals in the market. Globally, people are an interest in optimizing their diets for health-promoting properties through various channels. The most substantial routes are either by consuming fortified foods or bioactive active components that are extracted from superfoods. Fruits, their by-products, and underutilized fruits are the potential sources of nutraceuticals. Though interest in the nutraceuticals segment of the health sector is burgeoning, there is still a lacuna in the regulatory systems. Several countries, both developed and developing, have set up their own regulatory system for this particular sector, which varies from country to country. So, this chapter has attempted to specifically portray regulatory aspects of nutraceuticals and functional foods at national and global levels.
