ABSTRACT

With the current climate emergency and concerns regarding the impact of economic activities on the environment, green innovation is particularly urgent and necessary. However, green innovation presents additional challenges to the usual difficulties of the innovation process, and open innovation is one approach that can help overcome such challenges. In this context, digital technologies are being used for various applications relevant to economic exchange and sustainable development. This chapter presents exploratory research, from a systematic review, on the application of blockchain for green open innovation processes, seeking to identify evidence and trends for future research. The research results indicate that the use of blockchain, within its limitations, is becoming increasingly present and has the potential to improve the performance of open green innovation. The field of this study is considered recent. Future research can explore the limitations and challenges of digital technologies for open innovation, development of frameworks, applications of blockchain for impacts on climate action, and rewarding sustainable societal behaviors.
