Blockchain is an innovative and emerging technology that enables the structuring of open data in a secure and decentralized manner. This technology is a driver of digital transformation that permeates all sectors of the economy. In this context, many companies concerned with environmental governance principles are adopting blockchain in their sustainability practices. Thus, the following problem arises: How can the blockchain technology assist in environmental sustainability? To answer this question, the following objective was outlined: to map in the light of a bibliometric review how blockchain technology can assist in environmental sustainability. To this end, a bibliometric search was conducted in the Web of Science database. The results showed that research stands out in the following areas of knowledge: Ecology Environmental Sciences, Other Science Technology Topics, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Economics, Operations Research Management Science, Telecommunications, Energy Fuels, Food Science Technology, Information Science and Librarianship. It was also found that one of the uses of blockchain technology can assist in environmental sustainability and tracking of substandard products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
