ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent across a variety of industries, including healthcare. The potential benefits of AI in healthcare are significant, ranging from aiding the diagnosis of diseases to personalized treatment recommendations. However, as with any new technology, there are ethical, legal, and regulatory considerations that must be considered. AI in healthcare has the potential for bias. AI algorithms are only as unbiased as the data on which they are trained; if the data is biased, then the algorithm will be biased. This can lead to disparities in healthcare outcomes for certain groups of patients. From a legal perspective, there are concerns around data privacy and ownership. Patient data is highly sensitive, and there are regulations in place to protect it. However, as AI is used to analyse and interpret patient data, there is a risk that this data could be misused or mishandled. There are also questions around liability in the event of an AI-related medical error. The regulation of AI in healthcare is still in its early stages, but there is a growing recognition that it is necessary. Effective regulation will require a balance between encouraging innovation and ensuring patient safety.
