ABSTRACT

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) engage computational and physical capacities to support modern industrial production. When digital resources are used to support the physical systems, reducing human intervention and increasing automation, it is essential to provide a high level of information security. Information security encompasses data confidentiality, integrity and availability, and any of these three components can be compromised, thus leading to devastating consequences. Blockchain is an emerging technology that could improve the data integrity of Cyber-Physical Systems. However, introducing distributed information fortifications such as blockchain brings out more challenges, which this chapter discusses in detail.
