ABSTRACT

Zooplanktons are heterotrophic pelagic organisms drifting in the surface as well as bottom layers of aquatic systems together with the water currents. In this book chapter, we have attempted to incorporate a review of various studies carried out on Arctic zooplanktons with special reference to their secondary productivity. Literature records as well as the analysis of Arctic zooplankton from our collections made during the years 2018 and 2019 notify the decreasing trend of Arctic zooplankton biomass. The rising temperature and its consecutive effects such as the sea ice melts, intrusion of freshwater and variation in the hydrography of the Arctic seas have severely impacted its zooplankton population. In addition to this, we also highlight the future research areas associated with the same.
