ABSTRACT

—Recent developments on Neural Network based signal processing applications suffice the requirement of the high-speed computational unit. Such a unit can be implemented by using a multiply & accumulate (MAC) unit as it has the capability of performing high-speed multiplication and add operations in a single cycle. Presently, prospects of various non-binary number systems like Residue or Double based numeral systems in the binary domain, are explored to boost the performance of such modules. The possibilities of using multivalued logic in RNS or in DBNS to improve the speed can also be explored to achieve a better speed up. In this paper, a comparative study is showcased based on the results obtained from the two different logic domains such as ternary and binary for MAC operation.
