ABSTRACT
Communication system in automotive deals with transfer of signals from one component to another, there should be a proper procedure implemented for this communication to take place. This communication procedure depends on the purpose we are using it for, and it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Whatever be the system, there should be a common protocol implemented, in order for easy implementation, maintenance, debugging, and error correction. Here, we will look into why we need a common protocol in automotive communication system, what is the use of it and some of the protocols used in automotive system. The trends in advancement of communication protocol and their in-vehicle uses are also discussed. Automotive communication needs to support different protocols, as it is a network of protocols, implemented for different features.
