ABSTRACT

The smart and sustainable city is a priority for the world’s growing populations, and the systematic establishment of smart cities are getting attention with advancements in basic services and modern technologies globally. This book chapter is designed to provide a recent advancement of Bionanotechnology and concise detail of IoT based sustainable air quality management including the recent advanced tools and techniques. The background of global air quality monitoring under the perspective of sustainable urban planning and smart city development are discussed. The challenges associated with air quality monitoring and management under smart city initiatives will also be discussed in detail. The recent advancement in tools and techniques such as IoT devices and automations in air pollution monitoring, machine learning and deep learning approaches in monitoring, data mining and calibration of air pollution, edge computing (fog and cloud based) based IoT architecture for air pollution monitoring, and GIS application in air quality assessment are discussed. In addition, the recent case studies of IoT based application for air quality monitoring and management will be discussed in brief.
