ABSTRACT

Epoxy resins are extensively utilized in cutting-edge industries, starting from adhesives, microelectronic systems, to matrices for composites, for several decades until now. Besides numerous advantages, epoxy resins have certain drawbacks which constrain their superior performance attributes and applications. In order to understand how epoxies behave in polymer composites and to characterize the major elements affecting the properties of both polymers and the composites generated from them, numerous studies have been conducted. Epoxies have a wide and extraordinary range of applications, because of their superior mechanical strength, flame retardancy, thermal stability, chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, and other features as needed for their application in the automotive, aerospace, and construction industries. The chapter basically goes into great detail about how epoxy resins are used in polymer composites. This chapter also provides a summary of recent advancements in epoxy-polymer hybrid nanocomposites and their applications.
