ABSTRACT

Crude drugs in both organized and unorganized forms have been used in the management and the treatment of diseases. Crude drugs with evidenced ethnopharmacological uses have been gaining more attention because of the consumer reliability and their experiences with these drugs in terms of having lesser side effects, no toxicity, and considerable therapeutic effects. Three traditional drugs belonging to genus Terminalia, including Terminalia arjuna, Terminalia bellirica, and Terminalia chebula, have been utilized from decades as remedy for treating several illnesses. Owing to the presence of potent phytochemicals, these crude drugs retain more therapeutic efficiency. These all-crude drugs (their products) have been marketed worldwide. This chapter gives a detailed account on the photochemistry, ethnopharmacological uses, traditional formulations, mechanism of action, industrial applications, clinical data, adulterants, and substituents as well as the toxicity profile of T. arjuna, T. bellirica, and T. chebula.
