ABSTRACT

In recent years, food production has been affected due to a shortage caused by population growth worldwide. To this end, various alternatives have been generated, ranging from protected agriculture to a total production control system (plant factory). In this, all the variables for production are controlled, from temperature, relative humidity, light, nutrients, CO2, pH, oxygen, among others. Additionally, the use of large extensions of land is not necessary since it is carried out on shelves and a homogeneous production is achieved throughout the year, mainly vegetables. In addition, it is possible to modify all the variables to promote an increase in the concentration of antioxidant components and/or nutrients that promote a healthier life, as well as being an environmentally friendly process. Therefore, continuous research is a viable, profitable, healthy, and environmentally friendly alternative to improve food production systems day by day.
