ABSTRACT

This chapter is entitled to focus on nanomedicine and different nanomaterials that could be used in targeted drug delivery systems. Nanoparticles size and shape affect how body cell relates with it and thereby dictate its targeting strength, distribution, and toxicity. Factors that determine drug release from nanoparticle-based formulation includes temperature, pH, nanoparticle matrix swelling, nanoparticle matrix erosion, desorption of adsorbed drug and of drugs across the nanoparticle matrix. Solid-lipid nanoparticles are composed mainly of lipid nanopar-ticles which are either solid or semisolid at ambient temperature. Of recent, nanotechnology has played immense contribution in the field of medicine and pharmacy by maximizing the effort of natural and novel drugs in the therapeutics of severe diseases like cancer, tumor, and HIV/ AIDS. Deeper understanding and knowledge of the actual connections related to unhealthy tissues is basic for the advancement of a new treatment methods as well as procedures in the engagement of smart nano-based carrier systems.
