ABSTRACT

The field of nanomedicine is immensely diverse and expansive. It has been extensively explored for delivering various drugs and as a field of therapeutic strategy. In recent years, research has shown that nanoparticles make it possible to deliver the drugs that are either metabolized on the way to the target or have an abrupt release which interferes with the bioavailability as well as the efficacy. Therefore, making the controlled release, higher bioavail-ability, and specificity achievable. The nanoparticles can be designed to meet specific needs. This can be done by modifying the charge, functional group or also by creating various hybrids. Nanomedicine also makes it possible to co-deliver multiple drugs that help in impeding the major problem such as drug resistance. Combing the science of phytomedicine and nanomedicine also helps circumvent the challenges that are usually encountered when designing and developing novel drugs from phytochemicals. This chapter revolves around discussing various therapeutic benefits of nanomedicine and dissecting its application in clinical drug development.
