ABSTRACT

Children's folk game reveals the transformation of lifestyles and progression of culture of people through time. It is an output of the wisdom of time, and also an important treasure needed to be inherited, collected, and introduced to younger generations. At the heart of the collection and introduction of children's folk games lies not only the dimension of “play” but also helping players to look into the depth of the cultural meaning of the game. In this study, more than 40 children's folk games played worldwide are collected for a world toy exhibition, integrated with the application of augmented reality (AR) technology. The purpose of using AR is to digitize the full picture of the games for long-time preservation as well as giving new looks to old games. This study builds up the AR materials for each game consisting of videos and films, which are easy for children to operate; moreover, the integration of AR with modern interactive technology benefits the promotion of the exhibition as it attracts visitors’ interests and draws children's attention to exploring the games.
