ABSTRACT

Heavy metals (HMs) are non-degradable pollutants that are naturally present in the soil but toxic to humans and the environment at higher concentrations. Phytoremediation has been used to remediate HMs from the contaminated soils for deterring impacts on human health. The chapter outlines the general aspects of phytoremediation and various techniques used in phytoremediation. It also focuses on their use in the remediation of the soils contaminated with mercury, cadmium, and lead.
