ABSTRACT

The declining efficiency of soils in the salt stressed areas of the world is one of the serious concerns to agricultural development. The increasing sodicity in soils is primarily due to loss of minerals, inadequate irrigation schemes, mismanagement of farm lands and water systems which makes them highly vulnerable to erosion and deterioration. Bio-reclamation via microbiome with properties like low pathogenicity, tolerance to poor conditions and production of diverse secondary metabolites, presents itself as safest alternative to restore soil structure of these soils. Bioremediation can be utilized as a productive option which can ameliorate saline calcareous soils by enhancing the dissolution rates of native calcites and ions.
