ABSTRACT

In Morocco and in other parts of the world, land degradation is one of the most serious issues. Agriculture based on the exploitation of beneficial soil microorganisms and the application of organic amendments can not only ensure food security by providing sufficient nutrients to plants, but also to improve biodiversity and soil restoration. In this chapter, authors present results of field experiment in semi-arid area of Morocco to assess the influence of autochthonous arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi (AMF) and/or rhizobium strain in combination with green compost on growth and yield of alfalfa. Vegetative yield, physiological parameters; and the associated changes in the soil physicochemical parameters were evaluated.
