ABSTRACT

Dhanikhari Experimental Garden cum Arboretum of Botanical Survey of India is the only garden in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is a center of excellence for collection and conservation of plant species of the whole group of Islands. More than 600 plant species of different groups are conserved in demarcated sections in the garden. The garden is unique in its performance toward ex-situ and in-situ conservation of a large number of endemic, endangered, and threatened (EET) plant species and ethno-medicinal, economical, and ornamental plants of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The garden has already proven its role in assisting the government through effective conservation and control of biodiversity loss.
