ABSTRACT

Aquatic vascular plants are vital for primary productivity and nutrient cycling of an aquatic ecosystem. Weeds usually adversely affect human welfare by interfering with the utilization of valuable land and water resources; thus, they are unwanted as well as undesirable also. Several species of aquatic weeds have medicinal values and are good resources of minerals and vitamins. In the present chapter, two plant species, Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes, have been selected for review of their phytochemicals and medicinal value.
