ABSTRACT

The Center for Plant Conservation is a collaborative community of practice working toward saving rare plants from extinction. Although our boots-on-the-ground work serves rare plants in the United States, its territories, and Canada, our scientifically based guidelines and training modules inform conservation best practice throughout the world. Defining best practices for conservation collections and supporting them through financial subsidies and scientific evidence has contributed to securing nearly half of the 4,400 species estimated to be at risk of extinction in our region. CPC network research collaborations contribute to our knowledge of best practices. Through online resources, we train new professionals and communicate updates to our network and practitioners worldwide. With intention and repetition, we help engender public support for plant conservation so that future generations may enjoy a healthy, diverse planet.
