ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the fundamentals of chemical processes, along with the laws of conservation of mass, energy, and momentum. Stoichiometry of chemical reactions and the principle of limiting and excess reactants are presented along with concepts of optimal process design. Finally, general guidelines and approaches are presented for problem solving related to chemical processes. Seven illustrative examples and six problems are presented that relate to chemical process development, conservation laws, stoichiometry, and problem-solving techniques.
