ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a summary of weather and climate issues relevant to health and hazard risk concepts. Topics in the chapter include a brief history of weather observation, climate and weather fundamentals, meteorological factors affecting pollutant transport and atmospheric dispersion modeling, and the role that the National Weather Service plays in modern weather observations and forecasting. Four illustrative examples and four problems are provided to demonstrate health and hazard risk concepts associated with weather and climate topics.
