ABSTRACT

This chapter initially introduces discrete probability density functions (pdfs) and includes details of specific discrete pdfs including binomial, multinomial, hypergeometric, and Poisson distributions. Other discrete distributions receive peripheral treatment. Continuous pdfs are reviewed next, with details of normal, log-normal, experimental, and Weibull distributions presented. Other continuous distributions also receive some treatment. Seven illustrative examples and eight problems are presented that relate to the use of probability distributions for failure rate prediction in environmental and health risk assessments.
