ABSTRACT

Fiber-based composites have extensive application in various fields. Fiber-based composite materials are used widely as a substitute for metallic material because of their large strength-to-weight ratio. Light-weight structure is the important factor in improving the fuel efficiency of transport vehicles. In this research work, Izod impact test and hardness of carbon and glass fiber composites are studied. Specimens were prepared as per ASTM D265 standard. Unidirectional glass and carbon-fiber-based sheets with 400 GSM, epoxy resin YD535 LV, and hardener TH7255 were used for the preparation of sheets by vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding process. Three combinations like glass–glass, carbon–carbon, and glass–carbon were tested under the impact tester and their properties are studied.
