ABSTRACT

The accessible groundwater supplies are scarce fulfill the water conditions for consumption, agricultural and industrial use; therefore, the requirement for groundwater has enlarged. Groundwater is well thought out, the key segment of the world’s freshwater resources. The study is an effort to identify the possible groundwater zones in Matta tehsil, Swat. ArcGIS 10.4 was used for geospatial analysis. The methodology implemented is referred as multi influencing factor (MIF) techniques. Seven parameters, that is, Land Use/Land Cover, geology, soil, rainfall, lineament density, drainage density, and slope were used for delineation. The groundwater potential zones were classified into four classes very high, high, good, low, and poor. The study suggests that very high ground water potential zones 110(GWPZ) cover an area of 8.86 km sq., high, 115.27 km sq., 335.53 km sq. having good and 210.48 km sq has the poor potential of groundwater. The study showed that remote sensing and GIS provided efficient tools for mapping promising sites for groundwater exploration. MIF technique is an appropriate approach for the delineation of GWPZ, which can be applied for further research in different areas.
