ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the influence of technology under the umbrella of bio-mechanical engineering on the health of humans in the society is discussed. While this sector covers all the different types of implants, instruments used in surgery, development of prosthetics, etc., the overall definition of bio-mechanical engineering is to explain the linkage of technology and medical science in a holistic view. So, it is evident from the fact that with the advancement in the field of engineering and technology, the influence on the health of the public is positively impacted. But the concern as well as the attention of the researcher to public health is a significant factor. To get an insight of bio-mechanical engineering, most of the specific applications are covered within this section. This will make one aware of the orientation of technology toward medical science. The applications that are frequently used include the development of prostheses, regenerative tissue, medical devices used in diagnostics and therapeutics, and some of the most commonly used equipment like ECG, CT/MRI, etc. Most recent developments in the field of bio-mechanical implants and prosthetics are discussed herein. The sector of bio-mechanical engineering is wide and it is expanding at a rapid pace.
