ABSTRACT

The giant honeybee Apis dorsata contributes significant income sources through honey harvesting in rural areas in South Asian countries, and is an important pollinator species in the subtropical agriculture and natural ecosystems, as well. With its wide range of foraging and migration, this species encounters unexpected exposures to hazardous crop protectants such as insecticides and fungicides. This study reviews some existing information of pesticide risks to A. dorsata and discusses the possible conservation strategies including integrated pollinator-pest management (IPPM) system.
